Established in 1972, the University of Aveiro became an institution of an enormous national and international prestige.

Founded in 1973, the University of Aveiro is known as an exponent of quality and progress, occupying an outstanding place in the field of higher education. Part of the University’s success lies in the fact that it offers innovative courses that are closely allied with regional and national productivity. The most modern and complete infrastructures are at the disposal of the university teaching staff and students, providing all the facilities needed for their comfort and the carrying out of their work and study.

The campus, which has an open arrangement, is a mini city with grassy lawns among its 42 buildings: academic departments, administration buildings, student halls of residence, canteens, bars and restaurants, athletics track, gymnasium, post office, bank, University shop, libraries, bookshops, copy centre, pharmacy, conference halls, galleries and nursery. With buildings designed by the best Portuguese architects, the Santiago University Campus is itself an exhibition of the modern Portuguese architecture, visited each year by many architects and architecture students from all over the world.
